Jenkins reconnected with music producer and sound engineer David Gleeson, a contact from his Puck and Natty days, to be able to record demos at professional studios, such as Skywalker Ranch. Jenkins would write and workshop early material with musician Jason Slater for years before the band started up formally, and the two would work together to record the band's first demo together in 1993.
